$1,000 Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency Home Makeovers
Kentucky offers a 30% state income tax credit for residents who install certain energy efficiency measures on their principal residence. Kentucky residents may take the 30% credit on any of the following equipment installed on their principal residence:
*    Qualified Energy Property:  Water Heaters, Heat Pumps, Central Air Conditioners, Advanced Main Air Circulating Fans
*    Weatherization Measures: Windows and Storm Doors, Added Insulation
*    Energy-Efficient Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Systems
*    Interior Lighting Systems
The tax credit may not exceed $100 for insulation, $250 for qualified energy property, windows and storm doors, and $500 for HVAC and lighting systems. The total tax credit may not exceed $500 for any combination of qualified energy property and weatherization measures, or $1,000 for a combination of HVAC and lighting systems.  Kentucky also allows an $800 tax credit for taxpayers who build a new Energy Star home for use as a principal residence, but this credit might not be permitted if the taxpayer claims the credit for energy efficiency measures. The Touchstone Energy All-Electric New Home Incentive provides a rebate for residents who install an energy efficient heat pump or geothermal heat pump in their new home. A heat pump that is rated 13.0 to 13.9 SEER is eligible for a $700 rebate, a heat pump that is rated 14.0 to 14.9 SEER is eligible for a $800 rebate and a 15.0 SEER or higher heat pump or a geothermal heat pump is eligible for a $900 rebate. The equipment must be rated by the Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute (ARI) and be located within 1200 feet of a natural gas line. $12,500 for Energy Saving Home Upgrades
Residential customers who own existing homes are eligible for financing to fund a new energy efficient heat pump system, pending a credit check. Customers can borrow up to $10,000 for an energy efficient heat pump that is at least 13.0 SEER or up to $12,500 for an advanced heat pump or geothermal system. The heat pump or geothermal system must be installed by a Pennyrile approved contractor and will undergo a post-installation inspection. The Kentucky Solar Partnership (KSP) offers low-interest loans for the installation of solar water heaters. Loans cover the full equipment and installation cost. Loans are fixed at six years, with a 6.0% interest rate. They may cover 100% of the equipment and labor costs for solar hot water systems. Approved loans require a 5% down payment. $500 for Going Green
Through the Green Power Switch Generation Partners program, consumers participate as either residential/small-commercial or commercial customers. Under the residential/small-commercial contract, TVA will purchase the entire output of a qualifying system at $0.15 per kWh through a participating power distributor, and the consumer will receive a credit for the power generated. Under the larger commercial contract, TVA will purchase the output at $0.20 per kWh. Until a total capacity of 150 kW has been reached, the owner of a qualifying residential system will receive a $500 payment when the site is connected to the grid. The goal for the entire program is 5 MW. The credit of $0.15/kWh is available for a minimum of 10 years from the signing of the contract, regardless of the amount produced. Payment is made in the form of a credit issued by the local power distributor on the monthly power bill for the home or business where the generation system is located.
